Self-Help Group (SHG): Empower Together

SJKSS helps to formation Self-help groups (SHGs) in various district of Bihar. SHGs have emerged as a powerful tool for empowering marginalized individuals, particularly women, by fostering financial independence, skill development, and community solidarity. These grassroots organizations provide a platform for individuals to collectively save, invest, and address local challenges, transforming lives and creating sustainable change.

The Empower Together initiative focuses on mobilizing individuals from rural and low-income urban communities into cohesive SHGs. These groups, typically comprising 10–20 members, meet regularly to pool small savings, which are then used to offer low-interest loans to members for personal or entrepreneurial needs. This system not only provides access to credit but also reduces reliance on exploitative moneylenders, fostering financial inclusion.

A key component of the program is skill development. Members receive training in income-generating activities such as handicrafts, agriculture, food processing, or small-scale entrepreneurship. Financial literacy workshops teach essential skills like bookkeeping, budgeting, and managing loans, while digital literacy sessions help participants leverage technology to expand their businesses. Leadership and capacity-building workshops further enhance confidence, enabling members to make informed decisions and resolve conflicts collectively.

One standout feature of the initiative is its focus on market linkages. SHGs are supported in marketing their products through local fairs, exhibitions, and partnerships with businesses. By bridging the gap between producers and consumers, the program ensures that SHG members can earn fair prices for their goods and services, creating a sustainable income stream.

The benefits of SHGs extend beyond financial empowerment. Members often experience a newfound sense of agency and self-worth, particularly women who previously faced social or economic marginalization. Participation in SHGs fosters strong community bonds, enabling members to address collective challenges such as education, health, and sanitation.

The impact of SHGs is significant. Studies have shown that communities with active SHGs see improved household incomes, better access to healthcare and education, and increased civic engagement. By empowering individuals to take charge of their lives and work collaboratively, SHGs act as catalysts for holistic community development.

Through Empower Together, the vision is clear: a society where individuals, regardless of their background, can achieve self-reliance, financial stability, and a sense of dignity. By investing in self-help groups, the program not only transforms individual lives but also strengthens the fabric of entire communities, paving the way for a brighter, more equitable future.
